Who is eligible: To be eligible for selection, a North High graduate, former faculty member, or friend of North High must first be nominated. The Vikings of Distinction Committee maintains a permanent record of all nominations that they continue to update, and each year chooses those to be honored by a vote of the full committee.To be eligible, alumni must have been graduated for at least 20 years, and faculty members must be retired. The Viking of Distinction North Star honoree is awarded to a deceased alum or deceased former teacher.

Who can nominate: Any North High graduate, faculty member, or former faculty member may nominate candidates for the award. Online or printed nomination forms must be submitted by September 1st to be considered for the upcoming May event.

The Vikings of Distinction Program was established in 1983 to recognize outstanding alumni and former faculty of Omaha North High School as well as inspire and motivate current students. In 2017 the category "NorthStar" was added to recognize deceased former alumni. To be eligible, alumni must have been graduated at least 20 years prior to nomination and former faculty must be retired.  Nominations must be received by September 1st.
