A pharmacist and herbalist, Lester Carter began his career after serving in the US Navy. Throughout his life, he made and provided natural products and formulas. He began working for a Rexall drug store in Omaha and continued with opening the Carter Drug Store (now Hyatt-Carter Herbal Shoppe) in Milwaukee, WI in 1968.The only African American-owned drugstore in Milwaukee, it is known for its healing remedies and is a hub for those seeking natural remedies based on sound science. In 2000, Dr. Carter received The Alumni Merit Award from Creighton University’s School of Pharmacy. In 2018, a street was named after Dr. Carter in honor of his positive impact on the Milwaukee community. In light of Dr. Carter’s passing at the age of 90 on January 31, 2022, Vikings of Distinction honored his achievements at the 2022 event.
